Questions and Answers

From time to time here at Dynamic Adventures we get questions from various people. We hope our answers are of some help to them.

Question

How do I activate powers in Zenfar?

Answer

Many Alter Egos can activate powers: healing, protection, FluxBall, and more. To use them

  • Select the Alter Ego that will be using a power.

  • Right click on the target of the power (which could be the same Alter Ego you just selected).

  • Move down over the menus and select the power you want to use, then left click on it.

If you do not see the Flux or Essence menu your character does not have powers. COZ Guards do not have power for instance.

Question

Visual Basic or C++?

Answer

C++ and Direct X are the way to go. Visual C++ standard edition is available for a reasonable price and books like Game Programming for Dummies can get you started. Or if you already have some C/C++ knowledge and you are looking for game programming help only check out Tricks of the Windows Game Programming Gurus. If Real-Time Strategy is you thing also take a look at: Real-Time Strategy Game Programming Using MS Directx 6.0. If you are an MFC addict (you need a quick prototype) take a look at High Performance Windows Graphics Programming, not a bad place to start.

Question

Can I be an elf wizard in Zenfar?

Answer

No. But there are many new "races" to to discover (Throks and Prizms to name a few) and many unique "orders" for your alter ego to be a part of.

Question

I'd like to realize a small application with Direct3D and c++ Builder: displaying a .x file in a form (c++ Builder's form). How can I do it in retained mode?

Answer

Trying to combine various controls with DirectX can be cumbersome at times. I know that when I tried mixing DirectX with ActiveX it wasn't the easiest thing in the world to do. Some times compiler issue can cause most of the trouble, make sure you are using the latest version of C++ Builder or try using Visual C++.

One book that can help is The Awesome Power of DirectX/Direct3D, this book contains alot of retained mode examples.
